Pet Dental Services

Did you know that dental disease is the most common pet disease? 80% of dogs and 70% of cats are affected by the age of three. What causes dental disease? Pet owners neglecting dental care. Just as humans prioritize regular trips to the dentist, our animal companions need routine dental care to maintain a healthy mouth. When bacteria and food debris accumulate in the mouth, they harden into plaque and wear down the surface of the teeth and gums. If plaque is not removed, it can cause serious problems, from mouth pain to tooth loss.

Professional Dental Cleanings

If your veterinarian detects concerning buildup of plaque during your pet’s regular visit, they may recommend a professional dental cleaning. Veterinary dental cleanings are performed under anesthesia to allow your veterinarian to clean under the gum line. In addition to a full cleaning, your veterinarian will scale and polish the crown of the tooth to leave a smooth surface that is difficult for plaque to adhere to. If necessary, tooth extractions can be performed at this time as well.

At-Home Care

Fortunately, it’s easy to prevent dental disease from wearing down on your pet’s teeth and gums. With regular toothbrushing, you can remove food debris and bacteria before they harden. As pet owners ourselves, we understand it’s not easy to brush your pet’s teeth everyday, but even brushing once or twice a week makes a difference! You can also purchase dental diets and special chew toys and treats to help break down plaque on your pet’s teeth. Your veterinarian can teach you the proper way to brush your pet’s teeth and suggest products to support a healthy smile!
